Sun Tones: Yellows & Reds

Symbol of wealth and prosperity, yellow attracts attention. The color of light and heat, it also recalls the melancholy of the fall season. The earth yellows derived from Ochre and Sienna have been used since pre-historic times. They provide warm yellow tones which can lower the light. Yellow can brighten any room and can compensate any lack of natural light, especially those with a northern exposure. Light yellows combine well with whites and grays. With blues they create stimulating and balanced combinations based on their contrast: yellow brightens and warms up and blue is always fresh. Darker yellows claim more intense combinations with rich oranges or deep reds.

Red is the Color. Talking about red is almost like a pleonasm. Red has several references to  dynamism, joy, celebration, and youth, but it is also the color of blood, fire, and prohibition. Synonymous of beauty in Russia, of delight in China, and marriage in India, red is the color of love, but it is also the color of danger and hatred. Symbol of luxury and prosperity, it was reserved to ballrooms with the clear intention to exhibit one’s success. Different hues can be obtained in red from vivid reds to earthy reds. The latest include a line of rich and warm tones. Present in numerous civilizations, these ancient reds names “terra cotta” are never intense but are appreciated for their softness and natural feels.
