Sustainability can be linked very closely to the amount of energy required to construct a building as well as the chemistry of the products being used in that building.
- Hydrated lime plasters have typically lower embodied energy than cement and hydraulic lime plasters. The industrial production of hydrated lime requires about 30% less energy than the production of its counterparts: Hydrated Lime: 1600ºF - Hydraulic Lime: 2000ºF Portland Cement: 2400ºF.
- eco stuccoâ„¢ finish systems are non-toxic and do not contain any solvents. They cure mechanically by absorption of CO2. More than 100 kg of CO2 can be taken from the atmosphere per cubic meters of surface area. For a typical house of 300 square meters (3000 SF), the carbonation translates into 3 tons of CO2 re-absorbed into the plaster.
